Connel Airfield, a WWII runway, is still in service today and can accommodate small planes & helicopters. The nearest sandy beach is Tralee which is by the village of Benderloch lying some two miles to the North of the Lochnell Arms Hotel.
With stunning views of Ben Cruachan in the east and out toward Mull in the west, there is no better situation for touring the Highlands & Islands of Scotland. From here you are within an hour's travel by road to Glen Coe, Ben Nevis and Fort William in the north and south to Oban, Seil and Kilmartin. |

|
Oban is the principal town in North Argyll and the main departure point for ferries to the Isles of Mull, Tiree, Coll, Barra, Colonsay and Lismore and a weekly service to Islay. There are many day trips to sights such as Fingal's Cave on Staffa and to Iona and wildlife trips to view aquatic creatures ranging from seals to whales. The town itself is a pleasant harbour town, with many amenities such as the local cinema, a sports centre & swimming pool. Oban's most striking feature is McCaigs Tower, pictured on the left, which is an unusual coliseum-like structure situated at the top of town and offers visiters stunning vistas over the bay and Kerrera towards the island of Mull. |
A short drive north will also bring you to Castle Stalker, an impressive mediaeval castle featured in Monty Python's Holy Grail.
Further to the north is Glencoe, made famous as the site of the massacre of the MacDonalds by the Campbells. It is a beautiful glen despite its history and is popular with climbers, mountaineers and hillwalkers alike due to the uniqueness of this range of hills. |

Approximately an hour's drive away is the town of Fort William, nestling at the foot of Ben Nevis which is Britain's highest peak.
